A few weeks ago I told you all about my trip to Chicago for Printers Row Lit Fest including how I performed storytelling at the after party. On this episode I play the live audio from the performance where I regaled the room with the tale of The Great Donks Adventure, and how it will always hold a special place in my heart. Plus, Strength and Balance rule the cards in this week’s reading.
Episode 103 - I Can't Feel My Hands, I Can't Feel My Feet
Remember the good old days when smoking a blunt would get you all silly-like? What a time! This week I tell a story of the blunt that numbed all senses except for those of a Houston Police officer. Luckily, it was my friend’s dad, but the important thing is I didn’t learn any lessons. Also, the Wands won’t let me half-ass it while the Pentacles lay out the rest on this week’s reading.
Episode 102 - Printers Row 2019 Recap Adventure
I’m back from Chicago where I tabled at my second Printers Row with authors: Michael Allen Rose, Caleb Wilson, John Bruni, and Garret Schuelke. What a time we had, and to find out about that time check out my full recap of my latest Printers Row adventure. Plus, Pages and Pentacles are in the cards.
Episode 101 - Comicpalooza Hullabaloosers
This week I forget to turn the echo feature on my mic down so the whole episode is touched by reverb throughout. Sorry, or not sorry. Our story this week addresses my aversion to Comicpalooza, and how birthday cake became a trigger for me. Also, the Sun shines down through the Wands and Pentacles in this week’s reading!
Episode 100 - To There and Back Again: A Rubbergloves Story
Well, here we are at episode 100, and I couldn’t have done it without your support! I truly, truly appreciate it. This week I tell a story about another wild L2V road show, but one that lacks the fun and games you’ve come to expect. It’s about what you do sometimes on the path to your dream that isn’t glamorous, or sexy, or even necessarily fun at all, but it’s this and hundreds of other small, similar instances that help propel you to where you’re going even though you may not realize it at the time. Also, Pentacles and the Devil are in the cards for me this week.
Episode 99 - L2V Get B.A.N.N.E.D.
Getting banned from a club is totally rock-n-roll, but not knowing why the ban was imposed is just confusing. This week I tell the story of another crazy gig at an awful club that resulted in the Letters to Voltron being banned for life from the venue. Plus, Wands are helping make plans in this week’s reading.
Episode 98 - Giddy Up Kickin' Chicken!
The first time is never the best, but is a required to experience to get to to where you’re going. The first time on the road is awesome for every band, but how appreciated is it? Also, The Emperor strong-arms through the Swords on this week’s reading!
Episode 97 - Caught 2!
This week I tell an old favorite in front of an audience live at The Secret Group in Houston Texas. I usually forget to record when I do live storytelling, but not this time! So please, enjoy this live re-telling of a story in which I inadvertently become extra-close with my landscaper. Also, Stars and Queens are in the cards on this week’s Tarot reading!
Episode 96 - The Legend of Cardi's
When you’re in a young, hungry band you’ll take a lot of shit-gigs that end up giving you a lot of shit. This week I tell a tale of such a place called Cardi’s where one of my early bands called Taint learned some valuable lessons by getting shit on. Plus, Wands and Strength dominate this week’s reading!
Epiosde 95 - Ribbon Candy and the Escape!
I’m not sure if this story qualifies as a ‘wrong place, wrong time’ situation, but it certainly was in my mind at the time. I think it’s more like a ‘too high to be any place’ situation I was in. So is the plight of the young stoner, but these are the things we go through that make up stronger. Also, this is about the first time I saw Akira.
Episode 94 - Don't Be That Guy 2: Electric Boogaloo
I’ve just returned from an excellent time in Denver, and I couldn’t help but be reminded of my first trip there and my brush with death. This week I’ve decided to revisit the story of that fateful adventure and play a recording of me telling the story at the Houston Moth. Also, did I make it past TSA with my weed? Listen to find out . . .
Episode 93 - Mr. Wayne's Wild Ride
I know we all learned to never take candy from strangers, but what about taking strangers to get candy? This week I tell a story about yet another dumb decision I made that could have killed me yet somehow I come away unscathed to fight another day!
Episode 92 - The Wizard Van: A Voyage
I always wanted a van with a wizard airbrushed on the side of it, and one day I achieved one half of that dream. This is the story of said van’s first voyage, and the magic required to get Letters to Voltron to the gig. Also, kings of love lay out a path in this week’s reading.
Episode 91 - T.P. Identification Card
This week I delve back into my days as a mischievous youth hell-bent on not being convincing myself I wasn’t a giant pussy, and what better way to prove that than with some good old fashion vandalism. I might have jumped the gun at being a super villain though, because leaving my calling card was not the best move. Plus, this week’s reading has us dive into our subconscious while drinking out of cups!
Episode 90 - The Christmas Ale Challenge and the Birth of the Long and Uncomfortable
Some traditions are rich in history and purpose while others are just about getting drunk. It’s St. Paddy’s Day today, but I’ll be pulling from another holiday for a tale of competitive drinking, and hugs all around. Strength and Love are strong in today’s reading with a touch of Sun to make it all better.
Episode 89 - Better Late Than Starving
I have a horrible sense of direction, so of course when I was twenty-one I got a job as a delivery driver fro Jason’s Deli. Despite my shortcoming I figured it out, and it went on to be my most favorite job ever. They weren’t all winners though, and one evening I was swallowed up by a neighborhood for three hours trying to find the house. The end result was . . . not pretty.
Episode 88 - Eggs and Tape. What a Combo!
This week’s story comes from my younger days of getting into mischief. I guess to be honest we just invented new methods of mischief, and this is the story of one of those inventions. Also, pentacles with a cup come together in royal fashion in this week’s reading.
Episode 87 - Please Don't Look Behind Door Number One
This week I step back into my days as a clerk at the good ol’ software store, and how the unruly actions of myself and fellow co-workers may or may not have caused a District Manager to quit. Plus, wands and magic are flying around this week’s reading!
Episode 86 - I'm Not a Sportsman
We can’t all be sportsman, right? This week I give some background into the recording of a classic Letters to Voltron record as well as learning when not to hang out in the pool with your band mate.
Episode 85 - But Dude, You Friended Me
Despite the amount of weirdos and creepers on social media these days it’s still an amazing tool when used correctly. If you don’t like or agree with what someone says or does all you have to do is not look at their posts, right? It seems that’s not the case with a lot of people who feel the need to express why they don’t like it in venomous messages and unnecessarily scathing comments, which happens to be what our story is about this week.
